Preston 12 May,2023(TIE)A Wantirna College instructor who committed sexual misconduct with her “favourite student” out of loneliness may serve less than a year in prison.
After pleading guilty to the sexual exploitation of a child under 16, Azar Rahmatzadeh, 45, sat just a few feet from the teenager and his parents in the County Court on Friday as she was given a sentence of at least one year in prison.
The Croydon woman tried to offer one last apology to the family in court but was disregarded as she was led into custody. She blamed the boy’s drinking and having sex with him at her home on loneliness brought on by Covid lockdowns.

Rahmatzadeh’s actions were a “significant breach of trust,” considering the negative impact that loneliness may have on a person.
She said, “You knew exactly what you were doing was wrong.
“Your offending was objectively serious, and your moral culpability was high.”
During the January break from classes last year, the boy messaged the psychology teacher on social media, and she first accepted his request to go out for a drink.

Rahmatzadeh picked up the teen from the train station and then drove him back to her house while instructing him to cover his head.

The high school instructor allegedly said to the youngster, “This is so wrong,” while grinning throughout the encounter but continued.
The instructor wrote the youngster multiple notes in the weeks following the incident, referring to him as her “favourite student” and letting him know she missed him.
