One of Victoria’s positive coronavirus cases is a sex worker in the St Kilda area, the state’s health authorities have confirmed.

Health Minister Martin Foley made the announcement during Wednesday’s COVID-19 update. He said the case was safely quarantining and “under the best possible care”.

“So we need to deal with that issue, as we deal with all issues, respectfully and carefully,” Mr Foley said.

“We’re working with that individual and their privacy is assured.”

The minister stressed there was no evidence of transmission having occurred because of the sex worker’s occupation. He said a number of the case’s primary contacts had already been tested and, so far, they had returned negative results.

“But out of caution, we are asking that if you have employed a sex worker in the St Kilda area, you need to come forward and get tested,” Mr Foley said.
