Melbourne Sept 5 (TIE)  After criticizing harsh measures for not helping to curb the spread of Covid19, Mr. Daniel Andrews defended his decision to impose a curfew in Melbourne. The state government imposed a curfew last month, and people in Greater Melbourne had to stay at home between 9:00 pm. M. and 5:00 am Every day.
The severe measures implemented during the second wave of the epidemic last year have been widely criticized because health experts admitted last year that it had no effect in slowing the spread. When asked on Sunday why it was necessary this time, Andrews stated that there were specific reasons for restoring the curfew when the more contagious Delta strain broke out.
He said that road trips and public transportation during the curfew have been reduced by 20%. “This tells me that these are not people who shop at midnight or 1 am, but people who visit other people, and they are not allowed to do so, and they may be carrying the virus,” Andrews said. “So this is the purpose of the curfew. It means there are fewer people outside.”
State opposition called for the curfew to be lifted, which Andrews referred to as a “political score.” “I apologize to those who cannot go for a run early in the morning, and to those who cannot go to the supermarket at 3 in the morning,” he said. “I think they pay a small price for (other people), basically I think these rules don’t apply to them, go visit others. This is what makes the curfew more difficult.
