New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke at a Save Soil Movement event at Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan today on the occasion of World Environment Day, which is observed every year on June 5. The Save Soil Movement is a massive global initiative that aims to raise awareness about deteriorating soil health and motivate people to take action to improve it. The initiative was started in March by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, who embarked on a 100-day motorcycle trip traversing 30,000 kilometres and crossing 27 countries. The Sadhguru’s journey, which began on March 21, is now in its 75th day. The program also witnessed participation of Mr.C.Prabhakar, Director with Gopalan Enterprises.

The Prime Minister stated during the ceremony that the government is focusing on five areas to ensure soil conservation. – How to manufacture chemical-free soil. – How to Preserve Organic Matter in the Soil – How to keep the soil moist and increase the amount of water available to till the soil. – How to undo the harm that has already been done to the land as a result of the dropping groundwater table. – How can the constant erosion of soil caused by the loss of forest cover be stopped?
