A number of NSW police officers have been forced into isolation after they were potentially exposed to a person infected with Covid-19.
NSW Police confirmed on Tuesday night that “a number of staff” from the South West Metropolitan Region had been identified as potential contacts with a Covid-19 positive case.
“All affected police employees have been directed to get tested and undertake 14-days isolation in compliance with the Public Health Order,” a spokesperson said.
The exposed officers were undertaking work duties at a “venue of concern” in southwest Sydney.
“NSW Health is currently making further assessments about the level of exposure for officers from other affected commands,” NSW Police said.
“All measures are being taken to ensure strict health and workplace safety guidelines are followed.
“Deep cleaning has occurred at all affected police premises.”
7 News Sydney reported 60 police officers were in isolation as a result of the exposure to Covid-19, but NSW Police would not confirm the figure.
NSW recorded 172 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases on Tuesday in the state’s worst day since the outbreak started.
Sixty of those cases were in the community while infectious.
A further 19 cases were in isolation for only part of their infectious period and the isolation status of another 32 cases was under investigation.
