The new hospital is being funded with more than $900 million in the Victorian Budget 2022/23 – supporting the growing and diverse community of Melbourne’s outer west and providing better healthcare closer to home.
The project will be Victoria’s first hospital to be powered by 100 per cent renewable energy – creating more than 2,400 jobs during construction.
The project will be delivered as a public-rivate partnership, providing 24/7 emergency care with at least 274 beds, an intensive care unit, maternity and neonatal services, mental health services, radiology services and outpatient care.
It will have capacity to treat 130,000 patients each year and see almost 60,000 patients in the emergency department alone.
The Labor Government is seeking candidates from suitably qualified and experienced consortia who have the vision and capability to deliver the landmark project.
Later this year, the shortlised consortia will be invited to prepare detailed proposals to deliver the new hospital, before a preferred consortium is appointed and construction gets underway next year.
The community will continue to help shape this significant project for Melton. Chaired by Member for Melton, Steve McGhie, the Community Consultative Committee will meet for the first time in February and will continue to meet over the coming months to provide imput to the hospital’s look, feel and community aspirations.
The project is being delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority, in partnership with Western Health, who will operate the hospital. Enabling construction works are underway and major constructon is expected to start in 2024 and be finished in 2029.
