Preston 22 June 2022(TIE)The opening of Crown Resorts’ gaming activities in Sydney has been given conditional authorisation.
Crown will be allowed to open its casino, but the NSW Independent Liquor & Gaming Authority chairman, Philip Crawford, said the licence would be monitored under strict suitability requirements.

Mr Crawford stated, “Under the authority’s oversight, Crown has reinvented its gaming model from the ground up, implying significant structural changes in governance, anti-money laundering procedures, and corporate culture.”

“The Authority is glad to have reached a stage where Crown can begin its casino operations on a conditional basis after more than a year of cooperation with Crown.”

Given the necessity to monitor improvements in operation and ensure that reforms are ingrained in the firm, the authority will assess Crown’s appropriateness until the conclusion of the conditional gaming term, which may last anywhere from 18 months to two years.”

Blackstone’s fitness to hold a casino licence in NSW has also been approved by the ILGA.

On June 2, the Australian first reported that Crown was in line for a restricted licence.

Despite establishing the resort at Barangaroo, Crown has been barred from utilising the gaming floors following an ILGA-led investigation that decided Crown was unfit to have a casino licence in Sydney
