Carranballac impound

Melbourne Oct 31(TIE)Officers from Beaufort impounded a Holden sedan after it was detected speeding in Carranballac this afternoon.

It is alleged the Cruze was travelling at 150km/h in a 100km/h section of Carngham-Streatham Road about 1.20pm.

Police intercepted the vehicle and spoke to the driver, a 23-year-old man from Bendigo North.

His car has been impounded for 30 days with towing costs of $1625 and the driver is expected to be charged with numerous traffic offences.

The impound forms part of Operation Compass, a state-wide road policing operation that coincides with Melbourne Cup weekend and the easing of travel restrictions.

Police are targeting speed, distraction, fatigue and impaired driving in high-risk areas throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Operation Compass runs until 11.59pm Sunday 7 November 2021.
