Preston 5 Sept, 2022 (TIE)After being found in possession of a bag of white powder at Crown Resorts’ Perth casino, football legend Wayne Carey resigned from Channel 7 and was barred from the company’s properties for two years.
Carey, 51, is believed to have accidentally thrown a zip-lock bag carrying a white substance from his pocket onto a gaming room table last Thursday night when he was gambling at Crown Burswood.

Casino security was contacted after a croupier set off an alert, and they questioned the former AFL player after that, according to reports.

Carey allegedly acknowledged that the bag of white substance belonged to him.

The material had evidently come from his pocket, according to CCTV footage at the table.

According to sources speaking to the Herald Sun, the two-time North Melbourne premiership captain was informed that he would receive a “withdrawal of licence” notice, which would exclude him from all Crown properties for at least two years.

He was kicked out of the hotel when management discovered he was also staying at Crown Promenade.
Lewis Martin, the managing director of Channel 7 in Melbourne, responded to a query about the event this evening by saying: “I have spoken to Wayne and he has agreed to stand aside, pending an investigation.”

On Monday, Carey remained silent, but a close friend of his said that the bag contained crushed-up anti-inflammatory medications that he used for discomfort.

The insider emphasised that it was “nothing criminal” and added that the drug had not been seized.
