The New South Wales Government has said that the current outbreak in Sydney is a “national emergency” and has asked for more vaccines to be sent to the city as case numbers inch upwards once more.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian has confirmed there were 136 new Covid-19 cases detected in the state in the past 24 hours and announced new restrictions.

Two further local government areas in Sydney’s west will be locked out from the rest of the city.

Residents of Cumberland and Blacktown, in the city’s west, will be prohibited from leaving their local government area unless they are health or emergency workers, or are otherwise deemed “essential”.

Previously, this rule had applied to people in Fairfield, Canterbury-Bankstown and Liverpool.

Here are some of the key Covid updates from around the nation.
