Melbourne Nov 23(Vinod Thekkekara)The Andrews Labor Government is ensuring women and families across the Outer Gippsland region have access to coordinated family violence and family wellbeing services, with The Orange Door Network now open. Minister for Prevention of Family Violence Gabrielle Williams announced the opening of the Outer Gippsland Orange Door Network, which will provide support to families across East Gippsland and Wellington Shires.
The Orange Door Network is a free service for adults, children and young people who are experiencing or have experienced family violence, as well as families needing support with the wellbeing of their children.
The Orange Door Network in Outer Gippsland is delivered in partnership with Gippsland and East Gippsland Aboriginal Co-operative, Gippsland Lakes Complete Health, Latrobe Community Health Service, Quantum Support Services, Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Corporation, Uniting VicTas, Yoowinna Wurnalung Aboriginal Healing Service and the Victorian Government.
The Outer Gippsland Orange Door is contactable by phone and email, or face-to-face in Bairnsdale – with work underway to establish an additional site in Sale early next year, support is available right across the region.
The Orange Door Network is a key recommendation of the Royal Commission into Family Violenceand brings together workers from specialist family violence, child and family, men’s and Aboriginal services.
Services work together to provide crisis assistance, assistance to families under stress, risk assessments, safety planning and wellbeing support for children and families to help access a range of community-based services.
The Orange Door Network can help people access longer term support including case management, financial counselling and legal assistance, and provide advice to professionals, and concerned family members and friends.
The Orange Door Network is now operating in 13 areas across the state, with Outer Gippsland joining Central Highlands, Loddon, Barwon, Inner Gippsland, North East Melbourne, Bayside Peninsula, Goulburn, Ovens Murray, Inner Eastern Melbourne, South West, Mallee and Southern Melbourne.
Since 2018, The Orange Door Network has helped more than 170,000 people, including more than 66,000 children.
The Labor Government has invested more than $3.5 billion to end gendered violence in Victoria – more than the Commonwealth and more than all the states and territories combined.
