Melbourne Nov 18 (TIE)Hobsons Bay Criminal Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man after a vehicle sale resulted in a man allegedly being threatened with a firearm and having thousands of dollars stolen in Altona North.
Investigators have been told the victim arranged to meet the offender to purchase a 2013 white Jeep Cherokee that was advertised on an online marketplace.
The victim and a friend met the offender at an address on Ginibi Drive about 4.30pm on Sunday, 14 November.
While meeting up with the offender, the victim allegedly exchanged $28,000 cash for a key to the vehicle.
The offender then allegedly re-entered the vehicle, produced a handgun and pointed it at the victim before driving away.
Nobody was injured during the incident.
Police arrested the alleged offender in a separate stolen vehicle, a 2008 silver BMW coupe, in Altona North on Tuesday, 16 November.
During the arrest, a police vehicle was rammed in Altona North and the BMW was involved in a minor collision with another vehicle in Altona.
Nobody was injured in either collision, and the offender was taken into custody.
A 25-year-old Altona North man has been charged with a range of serious offences including armed robbery, aggravated intentional exposure of police officer to risk by driving, conduct endangering life, prohibited person possess imitation firearm, possess methylamphetamine, and several obtain property by deceptions.
He will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
