The shadow minister for housing and public transport in the opposition, Richard Riordan, has cautioned his colleagues behind a move to expel Mrs. Deeming from the party, stating that they have not acted in accordance with party regulations.

Legal advice also suggests that if the vote were to take place, Mrs. Deeming could legally challenge the outcome. Mr. Riordan has written to the five MPs responsible for the expulsion motion, as well as the party leadership, raising his concerns about the legality of the matter. He has proposed that the vote be postponed until the following week.

As per the Liberal Party’s rules, a notice for the expulsion of a member must “specify the reasons for such proposed expulsion” and be signed by the leader, deputy leader, or five MPs.
