Victoria, 12 October . Residents of all ages across the Mitchell Shire are set to enjoy improved community spaces thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Local Government Melissa Horne visited Wandong Community Centre today to announce a total of $1.75 million through the Labor Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund for three projects to support the needs of the region’s growing community.

Built in the 1990s, the Wandong Community Centre will receive $720,000 for an expanded meeting room, acoustic treatments to the hall, upgraded heating and cooling, an upgraded kitchen, new storage rooms, accessible bathrooms and accessible parking.

A further $830,000 will be invested to upgrade the Kilmore Senior Citizens Centre to improve accessibility and safety.

The project includes a new entry ramp, entrance and foyer area, two new multi-purpose rooms, compliant toilets, an expanded kitchen, as well as an improved driveway and carpark.

Families in Seymour will benefit from a $200,000 upgrade to the Kings Park Play Space, the new and improved space will include a triple swing, play structure, bridges, horizontal ladder, slides, cubby, climbing cube and nature play elements.

The Growing Suburbs Fund supports Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer suburbs and towns with key infrastructure projects. For more than two decades, their population growth has exceeded Victoria’s state average and that trend is expected to continue with around 900,000 additional residents by 2036.

This year, the Government has invested $50 million through the Growing Suburbs Fund to support 47 projects.

Since 2015, Mitchell Shire Council has received almost $30 million to deliver 31 projects through the Growing Suburbs Fund.
